MPP Sol Mamakwa’s Statement on the Police Shooting of Bruce Frogg

KIIWETINOONG—Ontario NDP Deputy Leader Sol Mamakwa released the following statement after Bruce Frogg died at the hands of the OPP earlier this week in Kenora's Anicinabe Park:

"Our heart goes out to the family and friends of Bruce Frogg, who was tragically shot in Kenora's Anicinabe Park. This incident has left us and surrounding First Nations heartbroken and grieving.

It appears to be another situation where the lack of proper mental health support leads to unnecessary loss of life. Too often, First Nations people are not treated with the same care by police as others.

The family deserves a clear and honest explanation and investigation by the SIU.

It's time for the government to admit that we have a serious problem. We must all come together to ensure that it does not happen again."
